Big news for Newport! We’ve been awarded the Housing Champions Designation by the NH Department of Business and Economic Affairs (BEA)! This recognition highlights our commitment to tackling housing challenges and promoting economic growth.
Why It Matters: More affordable housing means a stronger, more diverse workforce, helping our local businesses thrive and keeping Newport competitive.
What It Means for Us: We’re now eligible for grants to improve infrastructure and increase housing production, supporting our growing workforce.
Recent Wins:
- Spring Street Development: 42 affordable units filled quickly, with a waitlist.
- Ruger Mill Development: 70 units coming in Fall 2025, already in high demand!
Infrastructure Upgrades:
- Wastewater Treatment Facility: A $33M WWTP upgrade will support housing growth and improve public health by 2026.
- North Newport Water Supply Well: Expected to be completed by December 2026, this new well increases water capacity and protects our distribution system, safeguarding future development.
What’s Next: With 177 new housing units built in the last three years, Newport is making real progress in solving housing shortages and setting the stage for long-term success. We’re focused on expanding workforce housing and keeping Newport a great place to live, work, and raise a family!
