Workforce Development
The Newport community is dedicated to advancing workforce development initiatives in order to promote economic prosperity. This is done by focusing on people in addition to businesses as part of our overall economic development strategy. The Town of Newport's workforce development initiatiives are possible because of strategic partnerships with the Economic Corporation of Newport, Newport school district, local businesses, Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Lake Sunapee Region Chamber of Commerce.These collaborations have resulted in access to several workforce development programs for students and non-students as well as job fairs in Newport.
School to Work: The School to Work program is a workplace education program that gives Newport High School students an opportunity to learn critical workplace skills and gain work experience. In response to the growing need to ensure career readiness among high school students, the Newport school district created the workplace readiness program. Students are encouraged to seek any workplace education opportunity or internship based off of their interests, extracurricular involvement, and previous work experience. Businesses that are interested in participating in the program are encouraged to contact the Newport Economic Development Office and refer to the School to Work registration forms below.
Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center: The Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center has centers in Newport and nearby Claremont. Students can study several different career fields through Career & Technical Education programs (CTE). Check the links below to learn more about our local CTE centers.

NH Job Training Fund: The Job Training Fund is available to businesses located in New Hampshire and businesses intending to locate in the State, and who pay quarterly taxes into the NH Unemployment Trust Fund. Businesses that make voluntary (reimbursable) contributions are not eligible. River Valley Community College: River Valley Community College is located a mere 12 miles from Newport and has been an active partner in workforce development in the region. Founded in 1968, the main college campus is located on Route 120, two miles north of the city of Claremont, NH, within easy access to I-91. Situated on 180 acres, the setting provides the enjoyment of a rural existence and yet is within easy reach of cultural, business and shopping centers. Courses are also offered at the RVCC Academic Centers located in Keene and Lebanon, NH. The College offers Early College Programming, Workforce Training and Transfer Opportunities. WorkReadyNH: WorkReadyNH is a tuition-free workforce development program tailored to meet the needs of job seekers and career builders, and provide training in the skills employers are seeking in their current and future employees. The program provides assessment, instruction and credentialing in key skill areas, identified by employers as essential to workplace success. Graduates earn two nationally recognized credentials to add to their resume.
