Construction Update – Unity Road

Construction on Unity Road has resumed, and motorists should expect traffic delays and impacts over the next several weeks. We appreciate your patience while this important infrastructure project is completed.

Why is this work being done?
Newport's water distribution system includes water mains that are more than 100 years old, with many others dating back to the 1960s that have experienced frequent breaks. These aging pipes have been identified as some of the highest-risk sections of the system and are in need of replacement to improve reliability and reduce the risk of major water main failures.

This project is being funded primarily through grant funding, allowing the Town to replace these critical water lines while minimizing the cost to local taxpayers. Additional grant funds have also been secured to extend the project and replace even more water lines on Unity Road beyond the original scope.
