Gifts and Donations
Thank you for your interest in conservation in our town.
Per RSA 36-A:4 Powers, NH Conservation Commissions may receive monetary gifts and accept donations of land or interests of land for the purpose of conservation.
Monetary gifts are tax deductible and go into the conservation fund. The Conservation Commission utilizes this fund primarily to acquire property for conservation as well as conservation easements.
To start the process, email a Conservation Commission board member. Contact info can be found on the main Newport Conservation Commission page.
Additional Info:
The town treasurer has custody of the conservation fund. Money may be paid out of the fund only upon the authorization of the Conservation Commission by majority vote. The Conservation Commission must also hold a public hearing before dispensing funds for select purposes such as purchasing property. The board of selectmen must approve all monetary gifts and donations of land. All of this is detailed by NH state law under RSA-36-A. Donations can be earmarked for specific purposes.
