Off-Shift Childcare Market Study

OFF-SHIFT CHILDCARE MARKET STUDY

The Town of Newport took an important step in helping expand off-shift childcare services in Newport by commissioning an off-shift childcare market study. The project stems from area businesses reporting difficulty hiring employees. Companies offering late night, overnight, and early morning shift work are uniquely impacted by regional labor shortages and the lack of off-shift childcare availability. In an effort to support Newport's business community, the Town took action to help address this issue.

In June 2019, the Town of Newport was awarded a $12,000 Community Development Block Grant from the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority and a $5,000 Community Grant from Capital Regional Development Council to conduct a market study that would determine the need for off-shift childcare services in Newport.

The Town’s objective with the project is to help facilitate the expansion of off-shift childcare services in Newport by leading pre-development efforts. This includes assisting a local childcare facility wanting to expand operations with technical assistance, site selection, identifying funding opportunities, and developing business partnerships as needed.

Childcare centers that are interested in expanding operations are encouraged to contact the Town of Newport's Economic Development Coordinator at cmorrison@newport.gov or (603) 344-6278.
